FAQ 

  • Our hybrid Plywood/Hardwood design combines the best of both worlds by using environmentally stable, engineered wood with a strong and reliable hardwood profile. What does this mean for you? A superior substrate that is light, strong, and out performs others by its natural resistance to warping and twisting.

    We use a two-part "L" construction that forms the back and side (profile) of our substrates, panels, and frames.. The back is made of Baltic Birch Ply and the side (profile) is made of solid Basswood.

  • All of our products are made-to-order. Orders placed before 5:00pm are processed on the same day. Orders placed after 5:00pm are processed on the next business day

    Regular orders are ready for pickup or delivery within 10 business days after processing.

  • After your order is processed it goes into production. When your order is completed, you will receive an email to schedule a pickup or delivery.

  • Rush orders are considered on a case-to-case basis depending on availability and will incur a 25% service fee. If you need a rush order please contact us with your inquiry.

  • Because all of our products are made-to-order, in a way that means they're custom. We do not charge any fees for "custom" work, i.e. profile depth, size dimensions, etc.

    If you need something that's not on our website, contact us and we'll figure out how to make it for you!

  • We do not charge sales tax, we collect it and return it to the state. We are required by law to collect sales tax.

    New York City residents pay a combined sales tax rate of 8.875%. This includes New York State (4%), New York City Local (4.5%), and a Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge (.375%). Delivery fees are also taxable by law. If you place an order for delivery outside of NYC, you will pay the appropriate sales tax rate based on your state and county.

  • Orders can be picked up at our workshop for no charge or delivered to an NYC address for a flat rate. Rates are calculated by zip code and do not change based on order size. If you purchase one item or ten items, the rate will be the same. See our delivery map at the bottom of this page for NYC zones and costs. NYC orders over $750 receive free delivery.

  • Yes, we deliver to Westchester, Hudson Valley / Upstate, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Long Island.

  • You may return your item(s) for a refund within 5 business days of receiving your order. Returns must arrive in the original packaging and condition in which they were received. Returned items must be unused and free from any damage. THAMESworkshop cannot coordinate pickups for returned items.

    Sale items are non-refundable.

  • Strainers come fully assembled and cannot be broken down and/or reassembled, they are fixed at the corners. Stretchers are similar to strainers but have expandable corners and joints, and can be taken apart and reassembled.

    Choose a strainer if:

    • You’ve never had to key your previous paintings (expand the corners on any stretcher you’ve used in the past)

    • You plan on restretching it with new canvas multiple times

    • You’re on a budget

    Choose a stretcher if:

    • You apply a lot of continuous pressure to the canvas while working

    • You use large amounts of mediums, paint, or other materials on your canvas

    • You need a painting support that's adjustable and can be disassembled/reassembled
